The Institute of Physics of the Globe of Paris (IPGP) operates three volcanological and seismological observatories located on Reunion Island (hot-spot volcanism in the Indian Ocean) and the West Indies (subduction zone). Since 2019, the IPGP has been in charge, via the OVPF and in co-responsibility with the BRGM, of monitoring seismic-volcanic activity in Mayotte (island of the Comoros archipelago in the Mozambique Channel as part of the seismological monitoring network (REVOSIMA) which also involves other CNRS and Ifremer laboratories. The IPGP makes available to the international research community the seismological data acquired by these 4 observatories. It is necessary to ensure their validity and quality before distributing them.
The training » Analysis of seismological data recorded by the volcanological and seismological Observatories Networks of IPGP » will start thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris in the room 108. This course is for students in 1st or 2nd year thesis.
The purpose of the training is to learn how to analyze and validate the data collected by seismological networks equipped with different sensors. You will manipulate real digital data recorded in international SEED format. You will become familiar with the acquisition chains of different types of station. At the end of the training, you will be able to evaluate the quality of the seismological data you will be required to process as part of your work.
This training takes place in ten sessions of ~2h30 each spread over 10 months.
